Mini Coating Pan | Laboratory / Small-Batch Food & Pharma Coating Machine

The mini coating pan (laboratory / small-batch food & pharmaceutical grade) is a core piece of equipment for forming uniform sugar coatings or thin-film coatings on candies, tablets, pills, and granules. It uses a rotating pan + spray system + hot air drying to achieve smooth, even, and professional finishes — ideal for recipe development, small production runs, and in-store fresh coating.

Perfectly suited for food GMP and pharmaceutical cleanroom requirements.

Core Working Principle

  1. The coating pan tilts and rotates, creating a uniform tumbling bed of cores (candy centers / plain tablets).
  2. Peristaltic pump + pneumatic spray gun atomizes coating liquid (sugar syrup, film solution, colorant) and precisely sprays onto the tumbling material.
  3. Purified hot air passes through the bed, rapidly evaporating solvent/moisture to form a dense, smooth coating layer.
  4. Negative pressure exhaust removes humid waste gas. PLC closed-loop control of pan speed, air temperature, spray volume, and drying time ensures batch-to-batch consistency.
  5. For sugar coating, an optional polishing step enhances gloss and moisture resistance.

Basic Structure & Standard Configuration

  1. Coating Pan: 304 stainless steel (316L optional), adjustable tilt angle (typically 30°–45°), available in perforated / half-perforated / non-perforated designs. Lab models support quick pan interchange.
  2. Spray System: Pneumatic / airless spray guns, peristaltic pump, liquid reservoir; adjustable atomization particle size.
  3. Hot Air / Exhaust System: Primary + mid-efficiency filtration, air temperature adjustable 0–80°C, negative pressure exhaust with optional condensation recovery.
  4. Drive & Control: Variable frequency speed control (pan 3–25 rpm), touchscreen + PLC (Siemens / Fuji / Yaskawa optional), with over-temperature, low-liquid, over-current protection.
  5. Auxiliary Features: CIP cleaning ports, clean enclosure, mobile casters, fully sealed dust-proof design.

Main Specifications (Lab / Small-Batch Models)

Model Type Pan Diameter Batch / Hourly Capacity Air Temperature Range Power
Table-Top Mini Lab Model 300 mm 0.75–2 kg / batch 0–80°C 1.5–3 kW
Small Commercial Model 400 mm 2–5 kg / batch 0–80°C 3–5 kW
Mid-Size Small-Batch Model 600 mm 10 kg / batch 0–80°C 5–8 kW

Core Advantages

  1. Excellent Uniformity: Baffle + half-perforated pan design minimizes material abrasion; coating thickness variation < 5%.
  2. Low-Temperature Efficiency: Precise hot air control prevents softening/deformation of candies or heat-sensitive actives.
  3. Safe & Compliant: Full stainless steel construction, enclosed operation, meets food GMP standards; CIP cleaning ready.
  4. Compact Footprint: Table-top models fit on benches; floor-standing small units require only 1–2 m² — no large infrastructure needed.
  5. Process Flexibility: Supports sugar coating, film coating, enteric coating, light-blocking coating, coloring, and polishing.

Applications (Food-Focused)

  • Candies: Hard candy, soft candy, spherical candies, center-filled pieces — sugar coating, color coating, moisture barrier.
  • Functional Foods: Pelletized supplements, granules with thin-film coating.
  • Pharma: Tablets, small pills — sugar, film, sustained/controlled-release coatings.
  • R&D & Small Production: Formula optimization, pilot batches, in-store fresh coating (bakeries / candy shops).

Selection & Operation Tips

  1. Size for daily output × 1.2 to allow buffer; prioritize interchangeable pan models for lab use.
  2. Sugar coating: non-perforated / half-perforated pan. Film coating: fully perforated pan for faster drying.
  3. Maintain stable coating liquid viscosity; clean spray guns regularly to prevent clogging.
  4. Operate in clean, dry, ventilated area — avoid dust + humidity coexistence.
  5. Before first use: perform empty run + temperature uniformity validation.
